Baby Car Seat Recalls [2022]

baby car seat recalls

Investing in a baby carrier or car seat is a big decision for most parents. They are two of the things you’ll use daily when taking care of your little ones and ensuring their safety. But what if you find a brand or consumer product that you really love and suddenly discover that it’s been recalled? What can you do about that? I know how much your baby brands mean to you. That’s why I compiled this list of baby car seat recalls that you’ll be sure to find useful.

Keep coming back to check this list, before and after you buy. Not only will I keep this page updated with the latest child restraint recalls, I will offer proven alternatives that you’ll love just as much, but with more child safety assurances.

Note — We will only go back to recalls under 8 years or so. If you think your car seat or booster seats might be recalled or has a safety issue, the best thing you can do is call the manufacturer. While we do our best here to offer a full list, we are not able to list every single recall on car seats, carriers, and boosters. In 2017 alone, “755,000 vehicle child car seats from six manufacturers had some type of issue” (Source).

That being said, we’ll do our best to give you the latest car seat recalls in the U.S. so you can shop smarter and ride more safely. Check this list before you buy!

Mandatory vs Voluntary Recall

Generally speaking, a mandatory recall is where the manufacturing company is legally obligated (typically listed on the Federal National Highway Traffic Safety Administration – NHTSA website) to provide a replacement (either partial recall or full recall).
Whereas, a voluntary recall is generally a pre-emptive recall issued by the manufacturer, typically for non-essentially (not safety-related) features (e.g. faulty cup holders). On this page, we cover both, although giving precedence to child safety-related recalls.

Looking for a Good Replacement Car Seat?

The last thing anyone wants is a defective child car seat during car accidents. Even a “fixed” child car seat issue via corrective action can cause product safety concerns for your child, as it calls into question the track record of the company. Once a product has made it onto the car seat recall list, it may be time to choose a new model number or even a new brand altogether.
Check out some of our favorites as good alternatives to those on the recall list:
